This piece is comprised of equilateral triangles arranged in a left-handed helix. Each trianglar edge is one inch shorter than the one below it. An aluminum rod passes through the center of mass of each triangle providing stability. I had previously helped my friend and fellow carver Craig Studer construct a fountain in his yard with the identical design. The water flows out of a pipe on the top triangle and cascades down the edges. It's quite an appealing addition to his garden.
The impetus for this work was the creation of a sculpture for my back yard that would withstand the elements and require no maintenance. So only when it rains is water flowing down my helix.
