Garibaldi Damselfish

Honeycomb calcite on a granite base

17" x 11" x 12"

This carving of a Damselfish is the eighth piece in the fish series. Several features of this carving mirror previous fish in this series. Like the "Goldfish," it is carved from honeycomb calcite and has black onyx eyes. Both pectoral fins are separated from its body, similar to the "Pompano." Interestingly, when I began shaping the pectoral fins, their color was that of the body. Only when I separated the fins from the body did their color lighten to a bright yellow.
