Channel Cat

Tennessee Imperial Black Marble on a granite base

16" x 11.5" x 6"

This is the ninth piece in the fish series. I was attracted to this species because of its characteristic shape. In Georgia, catfish are the species of choice for backyard fish fries. Instead of just mounting this fish on a base I endeavored to create an aquatic ecosystem by coating the granite base with river rock embedded in sanded grout. The cat's whiskers were fabricated from aged nichrome wire (the burned out heating element from my friends clothes dryer). The eyes are black onyx cabochons.
